UClan bid farewell to Gyuhyeon Kim at the end of March 2017. Gyuhyeon, more commonly known to his friends and colleagues at UCLan as Kim, had been at the university for about 12 months working with Profs Bond/Eccles nuclear team. In this time Kim had developed composite materials such as ammonium phosphomolybdate incorporated into a polyacrylonitrile matrix (AMP-PAN), monosodium titananate via gel route and various ammonium metal phosphates using an in-line precipitation technique for cation extraction in particular cesium and strontium. He also contributed to a patent that addressed the monitoring of cesium in seawater.
Kim was an industrious student during his secondment, willing to learn and with a pleasant disposition. We miss his politeness, enthusiasm and presence.
